AI Assisted Editing or Writing Clarity

Assessment Types:
Where the assignment assesses the student’s own reflection, critique, planning, knowledge, understanding, or skill, but the assessment is not compatible with AI-generated content.

Student Use of AI:
No AI-generated content is allowed in the final submission; however, students may use AI to assist with editing and the written clarity of their work.
Students may:
-
Use AI to improve the grammar, spelling, and/or the written clarity of their work.
Students may NOT:
Use AI to reword their work to the point where their own writing ‘voice’ is lost.

Student Responsibility:
Students must:
-
State all AI tools and the type and extent of AI-generated ideas and/or structuring in their work at the end of the Bibliography (see Referencing Guide for examples).
Keep a copy of their original draft (pre-AI involvement) to show upon request
LEVEL 3
AI Assisted Ideas or Structuring/Aesthetics:

Assessment Types:
Where the assignment assesses the student’s own reflection, critique, knowledge, understanding, or skill, and is compatible with some AI-generated ideas and content.

Student Use of AI:
No AI-generated written content is allowed in

Students may use AI to…

Assist them in the initial planning stage of research.
-
Assist them with planning the structure of the assessment.
-
Assist them with the aesthetic presentation of the assessment, e.g., suggesting a layout for oral presentation slides or creating images.

And/or provide an appendix of chat and prompts used (see Referencing Guide for examples).
Keep a copy of their original draft (pre-AI involvement) to show upon request.
LEVEL 4
Partial Task Completion by AI:

Assessment Types:
Where the lecturer specifies one or more parts of an assignment that may be AI-generated or assisted. Students must also critically engage with the AI-generated section(s): evaluating its/their use and effectiveness in the assignment as a whole.
AI tools should be specified or approved, and, preferably, provided to students if not freely available.

Student Use of AI:
Some AI-generated content is allowed in the final submission.
Students may:
Use AI to generate or assist in creating one or more specified elements of the assessment, as directed by their lecturer.

Student Responsibility:
Students must:
-
Engage critically with their use of AI where the task requires them to do so, evaluating its effectiveness in relation to the assignment as a whole.
-
State all AI tools and the type and extent of AI-generated ideas, content, and/or structuring in their work at the end of the Bibliography (see Referencing Guide for examples).
-
Provide an appendix of chat and prompts used.
Keep a copy of their original draft (pre-AI involvement) to show upon request.

LEVEL 5

Assessment Types:
Where an assignment requires AI to complete or to enhance creativity.
AI tools should be specified or approved, and, preferably, provided to students if not freely available.

Students Use of AI:
AI content is allowed in the final submission.
Students may:
Use pre-approved or specified AI tools, as per the assessment criteria.
